The beast

I am a digital cartoonist and animator creating an intensely adult anthropomorphic animal anthology series. I choose to use anthropomorphic animals (animals with human traits) as my subject matter because I find an odd elegance in their forms and how they shape a character. My experience as a storyteller combined with my newfound love for character design coagulate into this project. I dance on the lines between sexuality, morality, and comedy to provide insight on diverse perspectives, such as Queer people and Sex workers. My stories are enjoyed by a small audience online, but I pride myself on pandering to a niche. The following portfolio only contains work I have made at/for GMU as a student, as I don’t have an extensive gallery of personal work. While it may not be “Where I’m going,” I’m more than happy to claim this work as “Where I was.” My eventual goal for that is to get a full-blown animation series off of the ground, but as it stands, I’m a touch far from that. My nagging fear is that my art will never be complete, in the sense that I’m predisposed to the concept-artist role and I will need to rely on the skill of others in order to make my vision a reality. Despite that, I have hope that my skill and expertise will only grow with time, as I’m still a relatively green artist, only taking my artistic practice seriously for the past 3 years. My hope is that I can bring my audience the same happiness I experience when I read webcomics and watch animation.

Naomi Gorbach was born and raised in Northern Virginia who has only recently opened up to an artistic career. She is a self-taught digital artist and has been studying for an Art and Visual Technology Bachelor’s at George Mason University for two years, after switching from her initial English major. While at George Mason, she has studied mediums such as printmaking, video art, drawing with graphite, and animation. Her primary subject matter is anthropomorphic character design, with an emphasis on trans perspective exalting spaces that have no problems with providing for and accepting marginalized individuals. Previously, she had produced a web writing series, Detective Groundfull (2023) which has since been on an indefinite hiatus. She is currently producing a small comic and animation series titled Mezzelune.
